QP1-18 1.5" Rotary Lobe Pump

The smallest in the QP1 series that we normally carry is still no slouch when you need a low-shear, low-volume liquid transfer pump.

Speed & Directional Controls

You can control your pump's speed and direction from the VFD (Variable Frequency Drive), a.k.a. the box on the cart that you plug into your wall. But using the drive controls at the pump may not be ideal; particularly if you're standing on a ladder looking into your tank, or trying to quickly jog the pump while shining a flashlight down into a barrel. Alternate controls make these tasks much easier. We make controls in a few different configurations. Click on the button next to each option for more info.

Overview

The QP1-18 is the smallest RPD pump we normally carry. As with other pumps in the QP1 series, it is completely part-interchangeable with the Waukesha U1 RPD pumps commonly found in wineries and breweries, so no need to stock up on new spare parts if you already them on the shelf.

QP1 pumps also have a few noteworthy upgrades relative to standard Waukesha pumps: the pump's gearbox is all stainless steel. Not only does it look great, but no paint chipping or corrosion. Additionally the shafts that support the rotors are made of 17-4 PH stainless steel as opposed to the 316 stainless you'll find in Waukesha heads. For those who aren't metallurgists, 17-4 PH is a much stronger stainless steel alloy than 316 SS. That being the case, the QP1 will live longer and be capable of generating much higher pressures than a standard Waukesha.

The QP1-18 is, as noted, a small guy. With a maximum flow rate of about 17 GPM, it won't be emptying your 3000 gallon fermenters. It will, however, make a very admirable pump for bottling, filtration, barrel work, and anything else where you need a low-shear liquid transfer pump.

Electrical Requirements

This pump is small enough that it can run on standard 115 V household electrical as long as you're not using GFI outlets. Those won't work with any pump that has speed controls. If you are using it on 200-240 V, the drive can accept either single phase or three phase input. When the electrician is wiring the plug, they will just not use one of the cable leads. Simple!
