Overview

Many pumps don't like to be run dry — that is, without any liquid being pumped through them. These pumps are cooled and lubricated by the liquid they pump. Running them dry creates friction. Friction leads to heat, and heat leads to failure.

When you select this option, we add a dry-run sensor to the pump, and program the pump's variable speed drive to work with it. The sensor itself is installed on a tri clamp tee that is attached to the inlet of the pump. When connected, the sensor will detect when the pump is running without liquid. After a preset length of time (10 seconds unless otherwise specified), the pump will automatically stop running, minimizing the damage from dry running. If you don't want to use it, just disconnect it. The pump will still work!

Given that new seals and impellers can cost a few hundred bucks, this is an upgrade that can quickly pay for itself!
