Overview
Rollers are a wear part on your Tosa Mecc foil spinner. When you start getting wrinkled capsules, you probably need to replace them.
If you've bought a foil spinner from us in the last 20 years, it's been a Tosa Mecc, and will need these replacement rollers. Tosa Mecc's standard-sized foil spinners come from the factory with six green rollers. Three are "sharp" and have a sharper angle. Three are "blunt". You can see the roller orientation diagram picture for reference on their orientation.
Tosa Mecc's large-format rollers come from the factory with six red rollers. They are smaller in diameter to accommodate bottles with a large neck.
Rollers are sold individually. If you wish to buy a complete set you must purchase three blunt rollers and three sharp rollers. See the roller orientation diagram for reference.
Do these rollers work with non-Tosa Mecc spinners?
This question frequently comes up. The answer is no. These rollers work for Tosa Mecc spinners only. We've had many folks try! Your best bet will be to contact the company you purchased your spinner from originally. Or buy a Tosa Mecc!
Which color of rollers should I use?
For the vast majority of people applying capsules to standard 375 ml to 1.5 L bottles, the green rollers work best. These are the OEM rollers that come on a new foil spinner.
Green rollers: These are the standard OEM roller. New spinners come preinstalled with these, and they work great for nearly every bottle we've seen.
Red rollers: These are slightly smaller than the green capsules, red rollers are better for larger bottles. If you are trying to apply foils to large format bottles, give us a call. There is a large format version of this spinner that you may need.
White rollers: These are made of a harder material than green or red spinners and not as rubberized. It may be more difficult to get a smooth result from white spinners, but they are much cheaper. Some of our customers have good results with three white capsules and three capsules of another color. Others are able to get by with six white rollers, and the results are good enough.
Wrinkle Elimination Tips
- Use a slow downward stroke
- Ensure the bands are spaced evenly, with the first band starting approximately .5" from the front.
- Try moving the bands slightly towards the front of the spinner if the standard configuration isn't working. 1/4" increments should be fine.
- Replace rollers when spongy, soft, or when the wear surfaces have become deformed.
- Replace bands when loose and cracked
