Overview
These thicker rubber seals for variable capacity tanks are meant as upgrades to the clear vinyl seals that come standard on VC tanks. They're a bit more expensive and certainly feel more substantial than the clear vinyl seals. Are they worth the upgrade? Some customers say emphatically "yes!" Others find them to be about as long-lived as the standard vinyl seals. We suspect that the black rubber seals are sturdier, but much of their longevity comes down to care, maintenance, and compatibility with the liquid they're coming into contact with.
In any case, all seals degrade over time, so it's best to keep spares on hand. We urge you to give both clear vinyl and black rubber a shot and see what works best for you. Let us know your thoughts!
Our sizing conforms to the variable capacity Minox tanks we offer. If you are looking to purchase seals for a different manufacturer's tanks, the sizes may differ. To find out which one you need just measure the inside diameter of the tank (not the lid). Select the closest size within 1 cm, if possible. Going a bit smaller is better than going larger. For example, if the inside diameter of your tank is 36 inches, convert that to centimeters. That's 91.44 cm. Go down to the nearest size we offer, which is 91 cm. That corresponds to our 800 liter size.
