Overview
Sraml's VPe Eco series of presses represents one of the greatest values in winemaking equipment. They are simple, intuitive pieces of harvest gear that you will look forward to using year after year.
The Eco series spans a wide array of press sizes: from the micro-scale VP5e (5 HL), which holds a bit less than a 1/2-ton bin of grapes, to the macro VP60e (60 HL) that can hold about 6.5 full one-ton bins. For reference, a 1-ton macro bin (Probin 44-S) has a volume of about 9 HL. You can read more about press sizing here.
Regardless of the size, all VPe presses come with Sraml's intuitive controls that allow you to load, unload, and press either with pushbutton controls, or using an integrated touchscreen PLC that is pre-loaded with common pressing programs.
Designed with hygiene in mind, the standard presses allow for thorough cleaning and feature all-stainless construction. If you are a clean freak — and if you're a winemaker, you probably are — a host of optional add-ons allow you to carry out full cleaning with minimal manual intervention. Even the press's doors hinge open to allow full access to the drum for a more thorough cleaning. They've thought of everything on this press…
Open Vs. Closed Drum
All presses are available either with an open slotted drum, or a closed drum with no difference in cost. Open drums allow for easier cleaning. Liquid can more easily drain out as you rinse the interior. But they do expose the wine to more oxygen during pressing, which can be a concern for some winemakers. Closed drums keep grapes away from the atmosphere, allowing juice to escape only through dedicated pressing channels in the drum. They are slightly more difficult to keep clean, with some disassembly required to get behind the pressing channels in the press for manual cleaning. Closed drums also allow you to perform maceration in the press itself, for additional versatility. It's up to you, but for reference most of the presses we sell have an open drum. The promise of easier cleaning is just too much to resist for most winemakers!
