Overview
While we make sanitary pre-assembled hoses using high-quality crimp-on hose ends, some people like assembling their own hoses in the whatever lengths they want, whenever they need. While it's usually not cheaper to assemble your own hose, it does give you extra flexibility, and the ability to repair damaged hose in-house.
Strapbinder's preformed stainless steel hose clamps are what you need if you want to go the DIY route. They are also cross-compatible with Band-It Jr. hose clamping tools for installing preformed clamps.
Knowing how to assemble hose will also allow you to repair a damaged hose, whether it was crimped or clamped originally. You cut out the damaged portion, add new hose barbs to each bare end, and apply the requisite number of preformed clamps using a Strapbinder tool.
We recommend using 1 or 2 clamps on 3/4" hose, 2 or 3 clamps on 1" & 1.5" hose, and minimum 3 clamps on hoses 2" and up.Preformed hose clamp sizes denote the clamp's ID. To make sure you get the right size, measure the hose's OD (or look at the manufacturer's specs). Buy the next closest size up clamp. For example, if you want to assemble 1.5" Kanaflex hose, the hose's OD is 1.82". The closest size Strapbinder clamp ID is 2". Purchase those clamps and tighten them down using your Strapbinder or Band-It Jr. tool.
